Rio Ferdinand makes ‘wonderful’ verdict in Leeds United Premier League admission
Rio Ferdinand has reminisced over his “wonderful” time at Leeds United and admitted he wants to see his former club promoted back to the Premier League ahead of next season.
The Whites are part of an intense Championship title race with Leicester City and Ipswich Town, with just one point separating the three sides, and only two automatic promotion spots.
Having begun his career at West Ham United, progressing through the club’s academy, Ferdinand moved to Elland Road before earning his famous transfer to Manchester United in 2002.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Friday (12 April, 4:14pm), he said: “I want to see Leeds back in the Premier League – I think it’s a huge club. I had a great time, fantastic time, great fans.
“They probably don’t like me as much because of my move to Manchester United but I can only speak positively about Leeds because I had a wonderful time there.”
Can Leeds United pip Leicester City and Ipswich Town to the Championship title?
With the three teams at the top of the Championship table separated by just one point, the league’s end result is becoming harder to call by the day.
All three teams have slipped up recently, with the Foxes losing 1-0 to Millwall and the Tractor Boys drawing 0-0 with Watford, and Leeds have failed to take advantage of those results.
Daniel Farke’s men followed up a 2-1 defeat to Coventry City, their first since a 1-0 loss to West Brom in December, with a 0-0 draw against Sunderland at Elland Road.

With final matches against Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, QPR and Southampton, Leeds will need to return to winning ways, and Farke’s previous experience in this position will be crucial.
The German has led Norwich City to the Championship title on two occasions, and that experience could be the defining factor between which of the three sides earn automatic promotion this season.
In other Leeds United news, a contract update for star winger Crysencio Summerville has emerged in recent reports.
