Rio Ferdinand makes Leeds United relegation prediction

Rio Ferdinand suggests Leeds United could be in real danger of getting relegated this season from the Premier League.

The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge.

Marcelo Bielsa did an incredible job at the Yorkshire club but the results have been really poor under him this season. Marsch has been tasked with keeping Leeds afloat in the league, but it wasn’t an ideal start for him.

“I still think it’s a hard slog for them,” Ferdinand told BT Sport (live on air) when asked to comment on the fight for Premier League survival.

“I think it’s going to between them and Brentford. I thought it was Burnley up until ten days ago now I’d say Brentford and Leeds are the two teams in the most danger to follow Norwich and Watford at this present moment in time.”

Big games coming up

Leeds actually did play really well against the Foxes and there were signs of improvement.

However, the results need to improve and Marsch will be desperate to get some wins.

Their next two games are absolutely vital. The Whites welcome Aston Villa on Elland Road on Thursday night before they face another crunch game against a relegation-threatened side in Norwich City at home.

If Leeds can these two games, Marsch will feel a lot relieved.

The Whites are 16th in the league at the moment with 23 points, two points above the drop zone.

It has been an emotional week for the Whites with Marcelo Bielsa leaving the club. It was a horrible month of February where they conceded as many as 20 goals and picked up only one point from five games.

Leeds produced a lively and energetic display against the Foxes. They kept their shape and pressed hard, but better finishing was needed with Jack Harrison, Rodrigo, Junior Firpo or Raphinha missing some good chances.

In other Leeds United news, Jesse Marsch shares a ‘fearless’ view on his players.
