Rio Ferdinand has insisted that Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford will be spitting feathers at being snubbed by England this month.
Gareth Southgate announced his squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers this week, but somehow favoured Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
Ferdinand believes that Bamford will be feeling majorly disrespected after his stunning start to life in the Premier League for the Whites.
Speaking on FIVE, his YouTube show, Ferdinand believes that is a disrespect that Bamford wasn’t given the chance this month.
“He must be absolutely spitting feathers right now,” he said.
“He’s the one right now, I reckon that is going ‘no, this is a disrespect’ because what he’s done, he’s got 14 goals this year.
“Got another goal at the weekend, he got an assist. He’s waiting for the email to come through, thinking my system is down and yet he can’t get the emails.
“He can’t believe what’s going on.”
It is nearly a full week since Southgate made his decision, and we still can’t believe that he didn’t hand Bamford a spot in his squad.
Watkins enjoyed a decent start to the season with Villa, but hasn’t scored in his previous seven Premier League starts; not exactly in form.
Bamford, on the other hand, continues to find the back of the net and was sensational against Fulham, proving everyone wrong.
The 27-year-old has scored 14 times, and the only Englishman to score more goals is Harry Kane, although Bamford has a better shot accuracy [BBC].
Southgate has majorly disrespected Bamford with this decision, and the Whites ace may not admit it, but he will be scratching his head over the next two weeks.
