Richard Keys sends Daniel Farke message as Leeds United clinch promotion

Daniel Farke successfully guided Leeds United to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

Having lost out narrowly last season, suffering defeat in the play-off final, they have clinched direct promotion this time around.

The league title is still there to be fought for as both Leeds and Burnley are level on points with two games to go.

Richard Keys gushes over Farke for promotion to the Premier League

Richard Keys congratulated Leeds and Burnley for their return to the top flight and lauded their respective managers for achieving this feat.

He also admitted that he was surprised that Sheffield United did not secure an automatic qualification berth.

The Blades were leading the table for a while and it seemed that the title was theirs to lose.

Manor Solomon has been crucial for Leeds this season.

However, they went on a bad run of form and ended up ceding the lead to Leeds, who did not fumble it this time.

Farke will still want to clinch the title and that can be done by winning the next two games.

Keys wrote in his blog: “Welcome back Leeds. And Burnley. Daniel Farke and Scott Parker have both done a terrific job at their respective clubs.

“I have to confess I’m a little surprised Sheffield United didn’t make it automatically. They looked really strong for the majority of the season, but the wheels came off their campaign at the wrong time. Four defeats from their last five cost them and it could get worse yet.

“You need to take form into the play-offs. The Blades are stuttering, but having said that, they should still make it. Of the teams they’re likely to come up against they’ve got the best squad. But don’t discount Bristol City. Their defeat at Luton was untimely – and a warning for Coventry, who go to Kenilworth Road next, but City are looking strong.”

Leeds United now have to recruit wisely in the summer transfer window

Leeds must recruit strategically this summer to avoid relegation from the Premier League, focusing on quality over quantity to bolster their squad.

They should prioritise a commanding central defender to shore up a leaky backline, targeting players with proven Premier League experience who can organise and lead.

A dynamic, goal-scoring midfielder is also essential to reduce reliance on inconsistent attacking output, with an eye on versatile players who can adapt to Farke’s high-intensity system.

Additionally, a reliable backup striker or an upgrade would provide depth and competition for Joel Piroe.

Leeds should leverage data-driven scouting to identify cost-effective talents from lower leagues or abroad, avoiding bloated transfer fees.

Retaining key players is equally critical, as squad stability will maintain team cohesion.

By balancing experience, youth, and tactical fit, Leeds can build a resilient squad to secure their Premier League status.
