Leeds United are readying an offer for Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley, according to SampNews24.
The report claims that Leeds will have to pay between £10.4-£11.2million to snap him up.
That’s less than the £12.8million Club Doria valued him at, who first reported that the Whites were interested in the 28-year-old.
Italian news outlet SampsNews24 claim scouts from Leeds have been left impressed by the Gambia international who has won 90% of his defensive duels so far in April, with both of his games coming against Serie A giants in AC Milan (89%) and Napoli (100%). [Wyscout]
However, they also report that other Premier League clubs are monitoring his progress ahead of possible moves in the summer transfer window.
Colley has helped Sampdoria to 10th place in Serie A, 15 points clear of the relegation zone with eight games remaining in Italy’s top-flight.
Something’s not adding up
We’ve been monitoring the ongoing development of this story and wondering where Colley would fit into our side given the plethora of talent we already have in the centre of defence, and that feeling hasn’t subsided.
Unless Pascal Struijk is loaned out to ensure he gets guaranteed game time we still don’t see how the signing of Colley makes much sense.
Robin Koch and Diego Llorente will surely get the chance to forge a defensive duo next season while captain Liam Cooper isn’t going anywhere imminently.
It seems a strange link but Colley’s statistics are mightily impressive.
According to Wyscout, his 71.11% defensive duels success in Serie A this season puts him just outside the top 20 and he has played twice or in some cases, three times the amount of those higher up in the list.
He’s also 11th for interceptions (150) and looks to be a bit of a defensive demon – those qualities are sure to translate well into the Premier League.
We’re just not sure if Leeds has space for him at the minute and at 28, his chances of a big move will start to fade if he doesn’t move on this summer.
