£55k/wk PL speedster set to be left out of Sat squad; wants move, Leeds to step up hunt – report

Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath has said that Leeds United are going to “step up” a move for Leicester winger Demarai Gray after a move for Michael Cuisance collapsed.

Cuisance was set to be announced as Leeds’ fourth big signing of the summer but had problems with his medical.

Gray has just one year left on his contract and this is the last window that Leicester could get a decent fee for him.

The 24-year-old, who signed for Leicester for around £4.6m in 2016, hasn’t managed to break into the first-team under Brendan Rodgers.

McGrath claims that Gray is open to a move to a club that offers a “good challenge and an exciting sporting project”.

Gray is reportedly on a big £55k-a-week at Leicester.

Gray is a natural left-winger who can play on the right or as an attacking midfielder. And it’s the left that Leeds need cover on – Gjanni Alioski is expected to come in for Jack Harrison on Saturday with the winger unable to face his parent club.

Gray only made three Premier League starts for Leicester last season but we’ve always liked what we’ve seen of him – he’s a fast, progressive, tidy player who is always looking to get forward and shoot.

Rodgers said of him: “If you look at speed and power, and explosiveness, technique; those are attributes he has.”

However, it would be a risk. He’s never scored more than six goals in a season and that was in the Championship.

According to The Mirror, he will be moved on and they claim that he’s set to be left out of the Leicester squad for the game against West Ham this weekend.

The last time he featured was when he played 90 minutes in the EFL Cup loss against Arsenal on September 23.

The Mirror report also claims that he’s “keen” to go.

This is a player who made the England bench two years ago but he’s in desperate need of getting his career back on track.

McGrath says he can leave for the “right price” and it could be that’s a bargain fee given his current contract situation.

It will come down to how highly Bielsa rates him.
