Report - Leeds set to step up interest in 28y/o, 'concrete' effort expected in 'coming days'

Leeds United will make their move for Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne “in the coming days”, according to Turkish outlet Haberturk

The 28-year-old has emerged as a target for the Whites this summer, with fellow Turkish publication Takvim listing them alongside Nottingham Forest and Watford as potential destinations for the hitman.

But it is now understood that Leeds will look to land the first punch in the battle to secure his services, and are taking “concrete steps” towards agreeing a deal.

Diagne has spent the majority of the 2019/20 season on loan with Belgian outfit Club Brugge, registering four goals in six league appearances.

He will now return to his parent club after the Belgian season was curtailed early because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The report suggests that he is unsettled in Turkey, however, and will be available for a transfer this summer.

And while Diagne himself is said to be concerned that Galatasaray will try to complicate any potential swoop from the Whites, it is also stated that Marcelo Bielsa’s men are ready to take the next step in their pursuit of the Senegal international.

This feels like a much more substantial report on Leeds’ interest in Diagne.

Whereas Takvim’s update on the matter suggested that the Whites were considering the striker as one of a number of options, Haberturk make it quite clear that they believe we will push ahead with a firm attempt to snap up the player in the immediate future.

And he looks as if he could be a real asset too.

He may have struggled for game time this season, but he still has one goal every 44 minutes in the Belgian top flight, and his general stats are considerably more promising than Patrick Bamford’s.

As per Wyscout, the 28-year-old’s shot accuracy is 14.6% better than Bamford’s, while his xG is 0.36 higher per match, and his goals per game is superior to the Englishman’s by 0.22.

He also outstrips Bamford in terms of successful dribbles, aerial duels won, and passes completed per game too.

If Leeds do make their move in the coming days, they could be pursuing a very worthwhile talent.
