Report – Leeds offered chance to sign 23y/o int’l, agent set to fly in for talks next week
Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara, according to Italian outlet Il Messaggero.
According to the daily publication, the Serie A giants are looking to offload players to fund their transfer business this summer, and are keen to sell the 23-year-old to facilitate the arrival of another central midfielder in the coming weeks.
It is not clear how much Diawara would cost Leeds, but the report does suggest that the Whites are interested in the player, although no official steps have been taken to secure his arrival just yet.
That could change in the coming days, however, with Il Messaggero claiming that the player’s representatives will fly to England next week in an effort to set the wheels in motion on a potential deal.
Diawara generally operates in a defensive midfield role, and has already picked up 10 caps for Guinea.
If the price is right, Diawara could prove to be a very astute signing for Leeds this summer.
Obviously, nobody is coming in and displacing Kalvin Phillips in midfield, but cover and competition can never be a bad thing, and Diawara looks as if he could provide both excellently.
Last season, the Guinean averaged a higher pass completion rate than Phillips, as well as a higher total action success rate, more dribbles, and a very similar number of interceptions, as per Wyscout.
Roma seem keen to sell, his representatives seem eager to get a deal in motion, and if their demands aren’t too high, we say go for it.
In other Leeds United news, this Sky pundit has been raving about a “dynamic” Leeds-linked forward.
