Report - Leeds make contact with CL club ahead of potential seven-figure bid for int'l ace

Leeds United have enquired about the availability of Slavia Prague forward Nicolae Stanciu, according to the Daily Mail

The national publication claim that the Whites are hoping to complete a quintuplet of signings this summer, and have “asked about” the 27-year-old Romania international.

It is understood that his current employers value him at around £7 million.

The striker hit four goals and 12 assists in 40 outings last season, including a run in the Champions League.

The Mail suggest that Leeds are considering whether or not they should make a formal offer for the hitman, who also has 10 strikes in 37 caps for his country.

The report goes on to state that the Whites are hoping to complete five signings over the coming weeks, and are looking to strengthen in several areas.

Stanciu’s goalscoring stats aren’t overly eye-catching, if we’re being completely honest.

This is a player who scored 0.24 fewer goals per 90 minutes than Patrick Bamford last season, as well as having a lower xG and a lower shot accuracy, as per Wyscout.

Certainly, if you’re looking for an out and out predator, you would have to ask whether this would be a wise move to make.

But we all know that Bielsa likes his strikers to be about so much more than just putting the ball in the back of the net.

Part of the reason that Bamford was able to retain his place in the starting XI all season was because he helped to link play and facilitate that creative talents of those around him so well.

And in that regard, Stanciu might actually be a decent addition.

His pass completion rate is higher than Bamford’s, his duel win ratio is higher, and he registered 0.22 assists more than the Leeds man too.

If that’s the sort of Bielsa is looking for then – a selfless talent who can lead the line without ego – then Stanciu could be the one to turn to.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been in touch with a top-four club over signing this midfielder.
