Report details what Leeds & WBA agree on after emergency meeting, ‘seething’ over some comments
Leeds United, West Brom, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Preston held an emergency meeting on Monday, according to The Times.
The newspaper reports that all of the top-six Championship clubs agree that the current season needs to be completed, even if it means pushing back the start of next season and want assurances from the Premier League that the usual three promotion spots at guaranteed.
Since the Premier League and EFL was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak last week, there has been talk of Leeds and the Baggies behind handed promotion to a 22-team Premier League for next season, with none of the current top-flight clubs being relegated.
However, it seems that none of the leading second-tier clubs are in favour of that plan and they want to see out the rest of the current campaign.
The Times adds that Leeds and their promotion rivals are “seething” with some comments that have been made by certain individuals in the Premier League.
West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady called for the season to be null and voided while Aston Villa’s sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has said that no teams should be relegated from the Premier League.
Funnily enough, West Ham and Villa are two teams who were embroiled in a relegation battle before the current suspension of elite-level football in England.
It is great to see that Leeds and their rivals are sticking together on this one and, hopefully, with enough clubs having the same point of view, it will lead to the Premier League and EFL trying to complete the remaining fixtures.
In other Leeds United news, Greg Dyke has warned that Leeds fans will go nuts if this one idea happens to them.
