Report details major Leeds contract news with £16m deal all but done
Marcelo Bielsa is set to sign a new £16million contract with Leeds United after winning promotion and the Championship title, according to the Sun.
The newspaper claims that the new £8million-a-year contract, that runs until 2022, is “all but a done deal”.
It is understood that there are still some minor details to sort out but once they are addressed, Bielsa will officially put pen to paper to extend his stay at Elland Road for at least another two years.
This is huge, huge news for Leeds United fans.
It goes without saying the mammoth job that Bielsa has done at Elland Road and securing him for the next couple of years is a major stride towards Leeds re-establishing themselves as a Premier League club.
It will be interesting to see how Bielsa gets his side to perform in the top-flight.
Pep Guardiola is one of the Argentine’s biggest fans with the Manchester City manager previously saying that he is “the best coach in the world“.
Although Bielsa’s trophy haul in his career doesn’t quite match that claim, the work he has done to get this Leeds team out of the Championship shows that there is no one out there who has a knack of improving players and planning tactics than him.
Of course, Bielsa does now have one new piece of silverware to add to his collection with the Championship title secured on Saturday when Brentford lost to Stoke.
We cannot wait to see Bielsa and his players lift the trophy at Elland Road on Wednesday.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are close to securing their second signing of the summer.
