Report details interesting twist after claim of secret meeting with Leeds, WBA & Ch’ship top-six

Leeds United, West Brom, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Brentford and Preston did not hold a secret meeting on Monday, according to the Express & Star.

The Times claimed earlier this week that Leeds and the rest of their top-six rivals all met to discuss what to do if the season was declared null and void amid the current coronavirus-enforced suspension of matches.

It was reported that Leeds and their promotion rivals were “seething” with suggestions from the Premier League that the season should be cancelled.

However that bit of information in The Times’ story has since been deleted and the Express & Star claims that it was false, with reporter Joseph Masi adding on Twitter that it was “a bit of sensationalism”.

The Express & Star’s report also adds that West Brom will call for the season to be finished by June 30, even if it means matches being played behind closed doors, at an EFL board meeting on Wednesday.

It is understood that the Baggies’ appeal to the EFL is likely to be echoed by most clubs in the EFL, although it remains to be seen what Leeds’ stance will be.

Leeds are top of the Championship as it stands, seven points clear of third.

While winning promotion back to the Premier League is what every Leeds fan has dreamed of for the last 16 years, doing so in an empty stadium would really take the shine off of what could have been a historic few weeks at Elland Road.

We hope the EFL don’t resort to playing matches with no fans but we understand why they would do this as well.
