Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Daniel Ayala several times but the Whites are not keen on the Middlesbrough defender, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Ayala, 29, has been repeatedly linked with a move to Elland Road and speculation has fired up again in recent weeks with the Spanish centre-back approaching the end of his contract at the Riverside.
Leeds could sign him on a free transfer from July 1 onwards with Jonathan Woodgate confirming that the defender rejected a new deal the autumn and will refuse to pen a short-term extension to complete the current season past the end of June.
Ayala seems to have been keen on a move to Elland Road in recent years though with the YEP reporting that he has “been offered to the Whites on several occasions over the past couple of years”.
However, more importantly, the interest has only been one-way and Leeds hold no interest in signing the Middlesbrough contract rebel.
Leeds are likely to need a new centre-back in the next transfer window as Ben White’s loan deal expires at the end of the season and Gaetano Berardi could exit Elland Road with his contract due to reach its conclusion.
If they go, Leeds need to at least sign someone better or as good as what they already have.
It’ll be incredibly tough to sign someone who can fill White’s boots but Ayala isn’t even fit enough to lace the Brighton loanee’s footwear.
Ayala has done okay for a relegation-threatened club and has been out injured since January.
We don’t need him.
