Report claims Leeds are pushing to sign Josip Brekalo

Leeds United are pushing very aggressively to sign Wolfsburg attacker Josip Brekalo for £12.76million this summer, claim LUFC FANZONE.

A source very close to the Croatian winger told the independently-run Leeds fan platform that Liverpool are also keen on the 23-year-old alongside the Whites.

Some clubs from Italy and Spain are also keeping tabs on Brekalo, and he would be taking his time before making a final decision.

They wrote, “A source very close to Josip Brekalo has told LUFCFANZONE: ‘Leeds and Liverpool are pushing very aggressively to sign the player for €15m.

‘There are also options from Spain and Italy, so Josip will take his time and chose (sic) the best option.'”

LUFC Fanzone have established themselves as a trustworthy source this summer given their access to the agents of some of the club’s transfer targets.

They broke the news of Kiko Casilla leaving Elland Road to join Elche on loan ahead of others after an interview with his agent through their Instagram account that is followed by a number of Leeds players and boast of over 55,000 followers.

Tight race

While attacking midfield is not a priority for Leeds this summer, they are keen on landing one if the right conditions present themselves, and £13million is definitely an affordable fee.

However, pipping Liverpool to Brekalo’s signature could prove difficult.

The Croatian international would most likely be keen to join a side playing in the Champions League and challenging for domestic silverware, and the Reds have got an upper hand.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been strong contenders in Europe and England of recent, and we understand why most players would prefer them ahead of us.

Brekalo’s chances of playing regularly if he joins Liverpool are slim, though.

The Reds have Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota upfront, and dislodging them would be a tough task.

Leeds offer opportunities, though, as we need quality competition for both Raphinha and Jack Harrison.

While the duo were brilliant last term, they need a winger capable of keeping them on their toes, and Brekalo fits the bill.

He ended last season with seven goals and three assists in 29 Bundesliga games, and is as talented as they come given his huge attacking qualities.

He is a definitely a signing we could do with this summer.
