'Remarkable' - Sky pundit claims Leeds figure deserves 'vast majority' of credit for promotion

Keith Andrews has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa deserves the vast majority of the credit for Leeds United sealing promotion to the Premier League.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that the recovery from last season’s disappointment was nothing short of sensational at Elland Road.

Leeds cruised to the Championship title in the end, finishing 10 points ahead of West Brom and an even better 12 in front of Brentford.

Andrews believed that it was remarkable what Bielsa has achieved, especially given the lack of strengthening in the squad during his tenure.

“It has been a collective effort, he’s been keen to stress that as well, there has been stability brought in recent seasons with ownership,” he said on Sky Sports’ EFL podcast.

“He does deserve the vast majority of the credit, there’s no doubt about that. Let’s not forget the pain they went through last year in the play-offs, the way he kept it together.

“The job that he has done is quite remarkable.”

Bielsa has already earned legendary status at Elland Road during his two-year spell in West Yorkshire, and that status could grow even bigger should he stick around.

El Loco’s contract at Leeds only ran until the end of this season, and there aren’t any doubts that he should put pen-to-paper on another deal.

The pictures of Bielsa lifting the trophy were incredible, you could see the pure emotion on his face as he finally banished claims that he is a “nearly-man”.

This week has shown a different side to Bielsa, but one thing is for sure, whatever happens, the Argentine is an icon at Elland Road.
