Reliable journo details exactly what is going on with JKA amid fears of season-ending blow

Marcelo Bielsa has revealed Jean-Kevin Augustin has not suffered a season-ending injury but his update on the Leeds United forward wasn’t exactly clear.

As quoted by LeedsLive, Bielsa said in a pre-match press conference on Thursday that Augustin “is not injured from April, but he is doing individual work”.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay had reported that Augustin was “highly unlikely” to play again this season after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury but Bielsa has rubbished the reports of the striker being injured.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is still going to miss the Cardiff match but what exactly is going on with him? LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross has provided some clarity on the situation.

On his personal Twitter account, Cross has said that Augustin is working individually to improve his fitness and hasn’t suffered a new injury.

Instead, the RB Leipizig loanee is simply still working on getting back up to full speed after his previous injury before the season was halted by coronavirus.

Even though Augustin’s setback doesn’t seem like the end of the world and shouldn’t be season-ending, it is still annoying that he’s not going to be playing a part any time soon.

Augustin’s played just three times since joining the Whites on loan from RB Leipzig in January and we haven’t really seen enough to say whether or not he’s good enough to take Patrick Bamford’s starting spot.

Leeds are obliged to sign Augustin permanently if they win promotion to the Premier League so if he doesn’t play again this season, the club will have to fork out on someone who has struggled to meet Bielsa’s fitness requirements and played just three times in January.

It’s worrying but we’re sure that Leeds can win promotion without him being involved that much.

In other Leeds United news, Ian Holloway has been as blunt as he can in this prediction about the Whites.
