Reliable journalist shares verdict on Casilla case at Leeds after contact made with FA
There has been a shadow hanging over the head of Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla for quite some time now.
The Spaniard is awaiting a hearing after being charged with using alleged racist abuse against Charlton forward Jonathan Leko.
That happened in September, and Leeds are yet to have a date in place for a hearing as a potential 12-game ban looms over the keeper.
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth revealed that he has been in contact with the FA over Casilla’s hearing, but they were unable to deliver an update.
“We’ve spoken to the FA today [Wednesday], and they cannot yet provide an update or a timeframe on when that will be dealt with,” he said on the Inside Elland Road podcast.
Smyth went on to add that this update most likely means that it is set to continue for quite some time despite suggestions the hearing was approaching.
“Given the fact that we are in January, we’re well into January, and there is still likely to be an appeal, it’s going to rumble on and hang over him, and hang over Leeds for some time.”
It has not yet been revealed when or how long Casilla could be banned for, but Monday provided enough evidence that Leeds are well protected in the worst-case scenario.
Illan Meslier made his debut for the Whites in the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal and was superb throughout the game. The Frenchman’s distribution was excellent and proved that he is capable of stepping up to replace Casilla whenever the time may come.
