MOT View: Would Rangers really sell Ryan Kent to Leeds for only £10m?

Leeds United have had a long-standing interest in Rangers winger Ryan Kent.

Kent decided to move to Ibrox last summer from Liverpool to join up with Steven Gerrard, despite the Whites making two offers.

Marcelo Bielsa has become a big fan of the lightning-quick winger during his time at Elland Road, and the move to Scotland hasn’t stopped that.

The Sun reported on Wednesday that the Whites are set to lodge a £10million bid for Kent, who has impressed at the beginning of this season.

According to the report on their website, Bielsa has made Kent one of his main targets and is hoping he can secure his services at the third time of asking.

Leeds are hoping to agree to a fee as early as this week and then open talks with the youngster despite him being settled in Glasgow.

Could the £10million be enough for Leeds? One fan asked reliable journalist Alan Nixon if Kent had a release clause.

Nixon, responding on his personal Twitter account said: “No.”

With Kent happy where he is and Rangers not wanting to sell [Daily Record], Leeds will surely need to increase their offer significantly.

Kent made the move to Ibrox for £6.5million according to Transfermarkt and, while Rangers players always have a price, £10m doesn’t seem to be it.

In his time at Rangers (including a loan move), the 21-year-old has scored 16 goals and assisted a further 13 in 80 appearances. Those stats don’t seem bad, but it comes out as a goal involvement every 215 minutes – something Bielsa will surely want to see improve before making a move.

Given that Rangers have started their season, Steven Gerrard will be really reluctant to sell – especially in a season when stopping Celtic getting to 10-in-a-row is going to define his time there.

With strong interest in Alfredo Morelos too, if the Colombian leaves we think there will be little to no chance of Kent following. Especially at £10m.

We think Leeds will need to at least triple the £6.5million Rangers spent for them to consider even allowing Kent to leave, and there are better players around at that price.
