Reliable journalist responds when asked about Leeds-EFL conspiracy theory
Some Leeds United fans have always suspected the EFL of being against them and trying to keep them from winning promotion to the Premier League.
Leeds are, without doubt, the biggest team in the EFL and draw in huge crowds and big television-viewing figures every time they feature on Sky Sports.
Basically, Leeds are like the EFL’s magic money tree and losing the Yorkshire giants could mean losing a lot of money if they are replaced in the Championship by a small Premier League club like Bournemouth or Brighton.
There have been some instances in the past where Leeds fans have suspected the EFL of foul play with last season’s spygate and this season’s Kiko Casilla racism ban being two recent ones.
Now that the EFL has suspended football due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are a few fans who think there could yet again be a hidden plot against the Whites.
LeedsLive journalist Joe Mewis has responded to one fan, called James, who is worried that the EFL are out to get the club.
When asked about the EFL conspiracy theory, Mewis replied on the LeedsLive website: “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re out to get you, hey James?
“What I’d say to that is that Leeds United have better lawyers than they did back in the day when the authorities have previously tried to pull a fast one, and I’ll leave it at that…”
Mewis clearly doesn’t want to get into much of a debate about this but one way that Leeds fans could feel aggrieved by the EFL is if they decide to null and void the season.
If that happens, Leeds’ promotion charge would be over and they’d have to start again.
If that happens, then we might start to believe some of the conspiracy theories ourselves.
In other Leeds United news, Ian Harte has made a bizarre comment about this rarely-seen Elland Road player.
