Reliable journalist: Leeds United midfielder set to exit in late loan deal
Leeds United are “finally” ready to send Robbie Gotts out on loan, according to The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon.
A move for Gotts has been on the cards for a while but it was held up earlier in the summer.
Nixon claimed that could have been down to Leeds wanting to get signings in before letting Gotts go.
With a lot of business done, it seems that Gotts is now ready to leave on a temporary basis with Swindon “hoping to do a deal”, according to Nixon.
Nixon posted the update on Sunday night on his personal Twitter account.
Gotts loan move is good news
Gotts is a popular player among Leeds supporters and there are high hopes for him in the future.
However, he’s really struggled to get any sort of game-time or even squad-time. He hasn’t been in any of the Premier League matchday squads, instead playing with the Under-23s in Premier League 2 this season.
That was the story last season, too, when he made just one six-minute cameo in the Championship, although he was a regular on the bench then.
He made his debut in the FA Cup game against Arsenal in January.
It was reported that Marcelo Bielsa felt so guilty about the lack of game-time for Gotts that he apologised to him directly in his office and said he’d understand if the player wanted to leave.
We think a loan move is the best thing that can happen to Gotts, although the narrative of waiting for bodies to come in before letting him go doesn’t quite add up.
Leeds haven’t strengthened in central midfield yet, although this could perhaps signify that something will happen in that position late on.
