Reliable journalist details why Poveda has been struggling since signing for Leeds
It was a case of one step forward, two steps back for Ian Poveda after he signed for Leeds United in January.
Or rather, two steps forward, seven steps back, after he made the matchday squad for the games against Millwall and Wigan after signing for Leeds, before promptly disappearing for the next seven.
LeedsLive editor Joe Mewis claimed on Wednesday that it is “his integration to Bielsa’s methods that has held him back so far” after he was dropped from the matchday squads.
And Mewis goes on to say that “training at home on his own won’t help this, but you’d have to imagine that clubs will be able to get a significant period of training together under their belts before the league resumes, which will help his cause.”
It’s increasingly looking like Poveda is going to be a player for next season.
It seems that some players need a full pre-season with Marcelo Bielsa in order to make an impact on the squad.
If Poveda hasn’t been able to integrate himself with Bielsa’s tactics yet, then it’s unlikely it’s going to happen if this season resumes.
The focus will be on getting established players back to match fitness and we think that any fringe players will likely remain on the fringes until the season is over.
We’ve watched Poveda in the Under-23s and he’s definitely got the talent. Hopefully, he’s got the attitude and the desire to make himself an essential part of Bielsa’s squad next season.
