Reliable journalist details West Brom stance amid reported ‘Civil war’ over Leeds decision

Leeds United have, somehow, attracted criticism for their decision to agree wage deferrals with their playing squad while there is no football on.

Preston manager Alex Neil told LancsLive last month that he would back the idea to place a transfer embargo upon clubs who have agreed to cut spending during these uncertain times by deferring players’ wages until football can reconvene.

On Monday, the Telegraph reported that both Preston and West Brom were calling for transfer bans to be placed upon teams like Leeds for wage deferrals.

Journalist John Percy said that a Championship “civil war” is on the cards but a new update from the West Midlands suggests that Leeds’ promotion rivals are not taking the stance we thought they were.

Joseph Masi, who is a journalist for Black Country-based newspaper Express & Star, has reported on his personal Twitter account that West Brom are not calling for transfer restrictions to be placed upon Leeds.

Although the Baggies are yet to furlough any staff members or agree to any kind of pay deferral, they seem unconcerned by the financial decisions that are being made at Elland Road.

It isn’t right that the Telegraph named West Brom in their report because it is quite shameful that clubs would seek to hurt Leeds for simply looking after those who are earning a normal living.

Patrick Bamford, Kiko Casill and Kalvin Phillips are all earning less than usual at the moment so that non-playing staff can continue to earn their usual wages.

Leeds haven’t had to furlough anyone because of this and the fact that clubs like Preston are saying it’s unfair is ridiculous to say the least.
