Reliable journalist: Championship clubs open talks about behind-closed doors fixtures next month
There have been some major developments on when Leeds United may be able to resume their bid to win promotion to the Premier League over the Easter weekend.
On Monday, ESPN reported that the EFL is hoping that the season can reconvene on June 6, with clubs being able to return to training on May 16.
That means clubs will have a three-week period, which has been dubbed a “mini pre-season”, to get their players up to speed before competitive action resumes.
In preparation for those remaining Championship fixtures, clubs have opened talks with teams outside the second-tier about staging friendly matches behind closed doors.
Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan reported this update via his personal Twitter account on Monday morning, adding that dates in late May have been discussed by clubs.
It means that Leeds players may be back in action and playing matches next month.
We all know how much importance Marcelo Bielsa puts on his pre-season training and, hopefully, the proposed three-week period will be enough for him to get his players back to a standard that he finds acceptable.
If not, the Leeds manager could struggle to get his team to pick up where they left off when they won five matches in a row to go top of the Championship table.
In other Leeds United news, this Leeds loan star has expressed his desire to stay at Elland Road next season.
