Reliable journalist delivers Leeds update on reported move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard
Leeds United fans were thrilled when prolific striker Odsonne Edouard was linked with a move to Elland Road.
It was The Mirror who reported the news, with journalists Tom Hopkinson and Sam Meade credited with the story.
Edouard scored a hat-trick on Sunday in Celtic’s first game of the new season but Leeds fans still hoping for a move to Yorkshire are set to be disappointed.
The Mirror’s Leeds journalist, David Anderson, has poured cold water on the potential move saying, “Just an update on Odsonne Edouard and it is my understanding that Leeds are not in the bidding for the Celtic striker.”
We’d love to see Edouard at Elland Road but we always thought this would be a longshot.
For starters, Celtic don’t want to lose him and he’s started their historic 10-in-a-row season on fire with three goals in the first game.
The 22-year-old has two years left on his contract and if he can see Celtic to their tenth title in a row, next summer would seem like the best time for the Hoops to move him on.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon has said that he thinks Edouard would go for £30m and his wage demands would be high.
That would have take a big chunk of the summer budget for Leeds and they’ve got other positions they need to strengthen as well as up top.
Ben White would cost £20-£30m and Leeds need at least one new centre-back this summer. A goalkeeper, another attacker and a left-sided defender could also be coming in.
Jack Harrison’s £8m option is set to be kicked down the road with another season-long loan deal in place instead and that shows that Leed aren’t awash with money despite promotion.
