Red Bull Salzburg pave way for Maximilian Wober transfer to Leeds United as agreement reached - Sky Sports
Red Bull Salzburg have agreed to bring back Daouda Guindo from his loan spell, which will pave the way for the transfer of Maximilian Wober to Leeds United, as reported by Sky Sports Austria.
The 20-year-old full-back was on loan at FC St. Gallen where he made 17 appearances, but it appears that the loan agreement has been terminated prematurely in accordance with the contract.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday (1 January) that an agreement is in place from both the Austria international’s side and the club’s side, and that paperwork is being prepared at the moment. The final fee will be over £10m.
First January signing
One of the highlighting features of Leeds’ transfer strategy during the summer was how quickly they identified their targets and secured their signatures.
The same trend continues here, as it seems the Leeds fans will not have to wait long to see a new left-back arriving at Elland Road.
The lack of activity in the January transfer window under Marcelo Bielsa last season was one of the major reasons why Leeds were fighting to avoid relegation.
Thankfully, they have learnt from their mistakes and didn’t waste time in getting a new defender this time around.
Having said that, it is a strange signing from Marsch.
Wober has made 15 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, and also featured in the Champions League.
He is a versatile defender who is a natural centre-back but can also operate as a left-back. This is similar to what Pascal Struijk does for the Whites.
One can’t help under wonder why the club didn’t go after a specialized left-back, but let’s hope Jesse Marsch can get the best out of him.
In other Leeds United news, the club is thrashing out terms for an early January signing after this player jetted into the UK for a move.
