Red Bull backed to hire Bielsa ally as new Leeds manager after Farke sack news

Leeds United’s owners are said to be considering Daniel Farke’s future despite only just achieving promotion to the Premier League.

The 49ers enterprisers are concerned by the German’s track record in the top flight and are mindful he may not build on the club’s successes this season.

With Farke’s Leeds United future uncertain, speculation has been growing as to who the Lilywhites could appoint as his replacement.

Marcelo Bielsa is Leeds’ most successful manager of recent years, with the Argentine guiding the club to the Championship title before finishing ninth in the Premier League.

Bielsa had a successful stint with Leeds

Speaking on talkSPORT (24 April), pundit Jamie O’Hara commented on Farke’s situation and tipped the Yorkshire outfit to appoint Bielsa’s compatriot.

He said: “It’s harsh, don’t get me wrong, it’s harsh and I feel for him.

“But, I don’t know, if they’re backed by Red Bull, say they’ve got a few quid right, they might have a manager like (Mauricio) Pochettino, a top manager.”

Pochettino is currently managing the United States but has been criticised after defeats to Panama and Canada.

During his time at Tottenham Hotspur, the former Chelsea boss commented on his admiration for Bielsa.

He told Sky Sports (2015): “He’s one of the best managers in the world and he’s like my father…

“I have spent a lot of time with him, I know him from 14 years old when I arrived at Newell’s Old Boys.”

Farke should be given Premier League opportunity

While Pochettino would provide a step up on Farke, it would be incredibly harsh if the Leeds hierarchy did not allow the German a chance to build on his success.

Question marks over his time at Norwich City are fair, but there is a wider context to his time at Carrow Road.

When the former Borussia Monchengladbach boss last managed in the Premier League, he had little money to spend, and thus the Canaries went straight back down without a flap.

This time round, Farke will have money to spend at Leeds United to bolster his side and make them a more considerable force in the top flight.

The 48-year-old has been in charge of Leeds for almost two years and has improved the side despite selling a host of top players last summer.

Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, and Archie Gray all departed Elland Road, but Farke has achieved promotion regardless.

Given that all three promoted sides are set to be relegated from the top flight this season, there will be little to no expectation on the Lilywhites as they prepare for the big time.

However, given Farke has assembled this team, he should be afforded the chance to keep them in the Premier League.
