Sellars praises Leeds loanee Jordan Stevens after battling displays
Bradford City co-manager Conor Sellars has heaped praise on Leeds United loanee Jordan Stevens, who has been on loan there since January.
Stevens has struggled for starts since he arrived, with just one in eight appearances in League Two.
He came on for the final three minutes in the 2-1 win over Walsall on Saturday.
However, Sellars has claimed that Stevens is “really talented” and claims his mentality and work-rate are first-rate.
Talking to BBC journalist Adam Pope, Sellars said, “Jordan’s a really talented player. He’s having to fight for his minutes. He’s had a few opportunities. He’s got to keep impressing when he does come off the bench.
“But what I would say… His mentality when he does come on, & often we’ve been in front in the game, he’s had to really work for the team and do his defensive part which he’s more than happy to do as well.”
Small steps but giant leap to the Premier League
Stevens fell away in his first loan this season, at League One Swindon.
That saw a drop down to League two in January and Stevens has struggled at Bradford too.
Fair play, then, that he is showing a brilliant attitude and work-rate when he does get on the pitch. That’s the minimum that Bielsa looks for.
The 20-year-old is under contract at Leeds until 2022 and it must look like a really long road back to the Premier League now.
All he can do is get his head down and convince Sellars that he’s worth a regular start.
From there, he has to prove himself and possibly look for another loan move in the summer.
It’s all about small steps for Stevens, who has made six first-team appearances for Leeds, the first when he was just 18-years-old.
