Real Betis want to sign Junior Firpo and Marco Roca as Leeds United summer exit on cards

Real Betis are interested in re-signing Leeds United defender Junior Firpo this summer as they look to strengthen their left-back position, according to Estadio Deportivo.

Firpo made 19 Premier League appearances for Leeds last season, scoring once and providing one assist as the club was relegated from England’s top flight.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 7 June that Firpo wished to leave Leeds United after the club’s relegation in search of a new challenge elsewhere, and a potential return to his former club could well be on the cards.

Estadio Deportivo reveals [9 June] that Firpo has already received offers from Europe and he’s been identified as an option for Betis to strengthen their defence and the La Liga outfit also holds an interest in Marc Roca also.

However, it is unlikely that Leeds United will be willing to loan both players, with the Whites hoping to recoup some funds for a summer rebuild.

Firpo’s time at Leeds United won’t be remembered particularly fondly, as he has regularly been a target for criticism from the fans for his performances on the pitch.

He can’t have enjoyed his time much either, as he failed to nail down a starting spot for any great length of time amid two relegation battles after arriving from the Camp Nou.

The Dominican Republic international had some flashes of good form but simply failed to follow it up as has been the case for much of his career at Leeds United.

The Whites will be desperate to relieve some players of their duties at Elland Road and Firpo is certainly at the top of the list. Given his best years came at Real Betis, it will be no surprise to see him push for a move back there this summer.

The same can be said of Marc Roca who looks set to depart Elland Road after a disappointing first season in England, but if Leeds United are to let any of them go, they must ensure they receive a reasonable amount for their services.

In other Leeds United news, the 49ers takeover is set to boost the summer budget according to Phil Hay.
