Real Betis advance in bid to sign Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca, steps taken to complete deal

Spanish club Real Betis are said to be advancing on Leeds United’s Marc Roca, who has been identified as a replacement for their outgoing player William Carvalho, according to Sevilla ABC, relayed by Sport Witness.

The midfielder is attracting interest in his homeland, not just from Betis, ahead of the new campaign for the Whites in the Championship.

The Andalusian side are said to be “advancing decisively” in their pursuit of the 26-year-old player who signed for Leeds from Bayern Munich just one year ago, for an initial fee of £10m [Sky Sports].

The situation involving both players was outlined by the ABC report, with the Portuguese player set to depart the Benito Villamarín Stadium imminently.

“Spanish side Real Betis are ‘advancing decisively’ for Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca, who they want as a replacement for William Carvalho,” it said.

“Betis have taken ‘important steps’ to sign the Spaniard from Elland Road this summer.

“The newspaper explains that Betis are looking to move Carvalho on as soon as possible, having determined that now is the time for him to end his time at the club.”

This is a transaction that makes football and business sense, from Leeds’ perspective.

Funds will need to be raised for the upcoming campaign in the Championship and certain players will need to be moved on.

Roca won’t be too enthused at the thought of plying his trade in the English second tier, whilst his stock is still high in Spain, as well as his reputation from his time spent with Bayern Munich.

A decision on the midfielder’s future will be made in terms of the bids received and that could be one of the first transfer business items of the current window to be overseen by the new manager with an appointment thought to be just days away.

Now that the 49ers are in charge in the boardroom, the arrival of a new boss on the pitch can finally herald the leadership and direction that the fans have been craving in recent months.
