Rayo Vallecano chief confirms Andoni Iraola plans after Leeds United approach
Rayo Vallecano sporting director David Cobeno has confirmed that they want to keep hold of Leeds United managerial target Andoni Iraola.
The Spanish manager’s contract runs out at the end of the season and the Whites made an approach for him to succeed Jesse Marsch.
While he did not move to Elland Road, his future is still understood to be up in the air, and Cobeno claims that talks will be held in the summer.

He told Tele Madrid, “We are super happy with Andoni and we want him to continue. After achieving the objectives of the season, we will sit down and we will all do our part so that we can continue this path that It’s already been going on for three seasons and hopefully there will be many more.”
Tough one
The ball is now completely in Iraola’s court as he has at least two clubs that will be willing to meet his demands in the summer.
Wherever he ends up at Rayo this season will probably be the highest they finish in a long time and that cycle could be over.
There’s unlikely to be any large investment into the club as the laws in Spain prevent that from happening and Rayo will always struggle to compete against the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
In England, it is a meritocracy if the right owners are in place and they’re willing to spend not just on players but also changing the ethos of a football club.

Iraola would be backed by the San Francisco 49ers to build this side in his own image and it remains to be seen whether or not Leeds approach him in the summer.
Hopefully, they still keep a keen interest in him and the other managers that turned them down as there are some quality names on it.
