Ray Parlour backs ‘top class’ Harry Redknapp to make Leeds United impact

Ray Parlour believes Harry Redknapp’s “top class” man management skills would be ideal for Leeds United after the former Spurs boss earmarked himself to come out of retirement.

The Mirror claimed (16 February) the 75-year-old would be willing to take the Elland Road job if he was approached by the board.

Parlour has since reacted to the news and backed the former Pompey boss to make a big impact if he did get the job in West Yorkshire.

“That would be unbelievable, back in the game,” said Parlour (talkSPORT Breakfast, 17 February)

“I always wanted to see Harry as England manager one day but I just think he can get the best out of players. He would have a good coaching staff around him as well.

“Sometimes it’s not all about coaching, it’s about man-management, and I think Harry will be top-class at that, top class.”

Laughable

The whole Redknapp saga will have to be taken with a pinch of salt. At no point will the board consider him for the Elland Road hot seat and if they are to go down the experienced English manager route, there are other options available.

Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross has suggested (Leeds Live Q&A, 16 February) that managers with prior Premier League experience are now being considered by the board as they try and work out the best way to ensure survival and see the season out.

Leeds United

The manager hunt has been a thankless task to date with a number of their first choices declining the chance to move to West Yorkshire. For now, the smart decision was to give Skubala the job for the time being. The players need continuity and keeping the under-21s boss in charge provides that.

If Leeds can muster two positive results against Everton and Southampton, he will almost certainly be given the job until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
