Rasmus Kristensen drops Leeds exit admission – ‘That is a fact’

Leeds United are hoping to see the back of Rasmus Kristensen this summer after his loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kristensen is closing in on two years since his last appearance at Elland Road, having left Leeds on two successive loan deals in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League in May 2023.

While Roma, where the Dane spent last season alongside Diego Llorente, decided against making his spell at the Stadio Olimpico permanent, Kristensen’s spell at Eintracht has been far more successful.

Frankfurt have made no secret of their intention to sign the 27-year-old permanently and a deal has been agreed in principle over a £5million fee, but Kristensen’s latest comments suggest that doubts remain.

Kristensen calls on Leeds and Frankfurt to find transfer ‘solution’

Given his sole year in the Leeds first-team ended with their relegation back to the Championship, few Peacocks fans will miss Kristensen if and when his permanent move to Frankfurt is sealed this summer.

However, in an interview on international duty with Denmark, Kristensen cast doubt over the agreement reached by the two clubs, suggesting that he may have to make himself “happy” with a return to Leeds.

Speaking to Tipsbladet (22 March), Kristensen said: “I am still owned by Leeds, so that is the scenario I have to work in – that is a fact.

“I would like to [continue at Frankfurt], and I have not hidden that either. It is a place where my family and I are happy.

“I hope we can find a solution for that, but if not, then you have to be happy somewhere else.”

Leeds must resolve Rasmus Kristensen transfer dilemma

It’s quite clear that Kristensen has no intention of returning to West Yorkshire if he can help it, and that Daniel Farke has no intention of bringing him back into the fold, making Leeds’ decision a simple one.

The Peacocks are happy to cut their losses on the 27-year-old despite Frankfurt continually attempting to barter down their transfer fee, and other than a late collapse in negotiations, his exit looks inevitable.

However, were such a collapse to happen, Kristensen’s comments imply that he is open to making a comeback at Elland Road, which may need to be the case if Leeds fail to win promotion this season.

Sam Byram and Junior Firpo’s contracts both winding down means United will be in need of full-backs regardless of this season’s outcome, and that means they could turn to one who is – at Kristensen’s own admission – still a Leeds player.
