Leeds 21y/o catches eye of coaching staff ahead of Championship restart – report

Tyler Roberts has not played much this season due to injury issues but he has caught the eye of the Leeds United coaches since training resumed last month, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Roberts, 21, has only managed to start five Championship fixtures this season due to injuries and the fact he’s not at the top of the attacking pecking order but he has impressed in his limited appearances.

Before lockdown began, the former West Brom attacker scored twice off the bench in a huge performance against Hull City.

It led to calls for Roberts to replace Patrick Bamford as Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice striker and while that remains unlikely, it seems that he stands a bigger chance now of getting more starts under his belt than he did before lockdown.

Adam Forshaw has been particularly impressed by the Wales international since returning to Thorp Arch.

“Tyler Roberts looks in great shape,” Forshaw said on the Leeds That podcast.

“I spoke to Stu Dallas and I’d seen Tyler getting into his car and he looked lean and well. Stu said Tyler has been so sharp in training.

“He’s got some ability Tyler. He’s been unfortunate with injuries but he could play a key part couldn’t he in the last nine games.”

Roberts has had so many injury issues since West Brom sold him to Leeds in January 2018.

He didn’t even make his Leeds debut until Bielsa took charge as he recovered from a shin injury.

The Welshman has now made 45 appearances in all competitions for Leeds but not many of them have come this season.

Hopefully the rarely-seen midfielder can get nine more outings before the season ends. He definitely deserves them.

In other Leeds United news, a 23-year-old has suggested he’s returned to Leeds after his loan deal ended.
