Raphinha struggles to reach Leeds United levels at Barcelona, sale to be considered already

Raphinha has not lived up to expectations at Barcelona following Leeds United move, and Sport suggest the Spanish outfit may look to sell him.

Leeds pocketed £55million for Raphinha in the summer after the Brazilian emerged as a Premier League star during his two years in Yorkshire.

But the 26-year-old has not hit the ground running in Catalonia and Sport report that Barcelona are growing frustrated with his inconsistent performances.

“The Brazilian international has not established himself in the starting eleven for Barça, where in the League he has had more substitutions (7) than starts (6),” reads the report.

“Raphinha was one of the highest investments of the summer. Between fixed and variable hiring him can go to 60 million euros, but at Barca they begin to get impatient with the Brazilian after an irregular start to the season and a discreet performance in the World Cup.

“The coaching staff hopes that, after his natural adaptation, Raphinha will take off in the decisive stretch of the season, although he will be assessed at the end of the season since the Blaugrana club expects much more from him.”

Homecoming on the cards?

If Raphinha finds himself out of favour at Nou Camp, he can always consider Elland Road home. Regardless of his form, it’d be hard to find any Leeds supporters who wouldn’t want him back at a moment’s notice.

The Brazilian played a huge role in helping the Whites survive relegation last season, fighting through major injuries to help both Marcelo Bielsa and Marsch steer the club to safety.

The only issue in Raphinha returning to Leeds would be the transfer fee demanded by the Spanish giants. They would likely want a large portion of their £55milliion investment back on the 26-year-old and Leeds hardly have that kind of money to throw around.

Luis Sinisterra has done a good job of filling the void left by Raphinha, although his persistent injury issues have forced Marsch to rotate.

Sadly, unless Barcelona are willing to lower their asking price considerably Raphinha isn’t likely to return to Leeds anytime soon. Hopefully he can turn things around in Barcelona.
