Raphinha sarcastically applauded ref in Leeds defeat v Man City

Leeds United suffered an embarrassing 7-0 defeat against Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Whites trailed 3-0 at the break, with City playing some scintillating football. They were just too good.

After Kevin de Bruyne scored the third goal, Leeds winger Raphinha was seen sarcastically applauding the referee, Paul Tierney.

Premier League Tv production commentator and pundit, Jim Beglin said after the third goal:

“Raphinha has been sarcastically applauding Paul Tierney. Because, initially he had gone down and surrendered possession, and then it ends up at the feet of De Bruyne.

“Meslier has left the gap on his front post, and that’s not the thing you do against the Belgian.”

Chasing shadows

Leeds players were left chasing shadows throughout the game. They were completely outplayed.

It was a masterclass performance from Pep Guardiola’s side, and one cannot help but admire the attacking marvel they displayed.

Could Meslier have done better? Probably.

After conceding a poor first goal, and Leeds lacking leaders on the pitch, his confidence was shattered.

He tried to close down Kevin de Bruyne but left a lot of gaps on the front post. The Belgian neatly finished with his left foot from close range.

To make the journey worse, Junior Firpo will now miss the next match after picking up five yellow cards. Jamie Shackleton has also picked up an injury.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says the Whites intend to sign a midfielder in January after a major development on Monday.
