Raphinha reveals why he rejected other Leeds United exit routes

Leeds United could have earned themselves a lot more money than they eventually did for Brazilian winger Raphinha over the summer.

Chelsea were reported to be in the hunt to sign him and had a bid accepted but he and his representatives were not interested in entertaining any personal terms from those at Stamford Bridge.

His heart was always set on Barcelona who eventually came up with an acceptable offer for the Whites and the Brazilian has explained the whole deal.

“My dream was to wear the Barcelona shirt, which is a club that I have followed since I was very young. Since Ronaldinho arrived,” he said to La Vanguardia.

“With him, I began to understand a little more the history of the club. I wanted to be a part of this. So that dream, those desires were stronger than any other proposal no matter how powerful it was financially.

“Ronnie congratulated me through my father. Yes, I talk a lot with Neymar. He told me that if he came here he would not regret it. He is right.”

After it was Leeds United who gave Raphinha the platform to catapult himself to one of the world’s biggest clubs but he could have brought in so much more money to the club.

Chelsea would have happily paid even more money to sign him and that could have been the difference for Leeds to get one more headline signing over the line before the window closed.

But his own selfish desires took charge of the situation and it will come back to bite him as it has for pretty much every Barcelona signing for the best part of a decade.

He will soon wish he had chosen Stamford Bridge instead of the Camp Nou where he would have not only earned plenty more money but had a much higher chance of being successful.

There is only so much Leeds can do to push him in the right direction though and he still chose wrong so he has to live with that.

In other Leeds United news, it could soon be time for this Elland Road duo to say goodbye to the club for good very soon.
