Ralf Rangnick wants to sign Leeds United man Kalvin Phillips
Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has told his scouts to watch Leeds United man Kalvin Phillips, according to a new report.
ESPN report that the German wants the Red Devils to sign a new midfielder and Phillips has been picked out as a possible target.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, but it appears as if Rangnick has stepped up the club’s pursuit of Phillips.
Phillips might not be in action for a while after a new injury, so it is unclear when the Red Devils will start scouting him again.
Manchester United to step up their pursuit?
The 26-year-old has become an excellent Premier League midfielder, and he has also established himself in the England side as a key player.
He has also been described as “excellent” by Gareth Southgate in the past, so it is clear that some of the so-called bigger clubs are keen on recruiting Phillips [TEAMtalk].
Now, Rangnick is set to take on a consultancy role at Old Trafford once his contract expires at the end of the season, so you would think he could be determined to bring Phillips to Manchester.
Given his injury, we can’t see the Red Devils launching a move for Phillips in January, but this could definitely be one to keep an eye on in the summer.
Phillips is one of Leeds’ best players, so he is always going to attract interest, but it does seem as if things could become quite intense in the summer.
Hopefully, Phillips remains at Elland Road, but Rangnick is a fan, and that could spell danger for the Whites.
