Raheem Sterling sends message to Ian Poveda after Leeds loan exit
Ian Poveda has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan from Leeds United for the rest of the season, and Raheem Sterling has sent his best wishes.
The England youth international attacking midfielder will be looking to play regularly at the Championship side having struggled for regular first-team opportunities at Elland Road.
Poveda, 21, has taken to his personal Instagram account to express his delight with the move, posting: “Can’t wait to get started”
Manchester City star Sterling replied thus in the comment section: “Let’s go Genna Genna” (Genna is Patois English for General)
All the best
Poveda has played 20 games for Leeds since joining from Man City in January 2020, and he definitely needs more appearances if his development is to continue.
The Whites are well-stocked in the attacking department, and head coach Marcelo Bielsa could end up with a new winger before the summer transfer window shuts if a right deal can be secured.
With game time hard to come by at Elland Road, a temporary exit was necessary for the youngster and the club will definitely be monitoring his progress at Ewood Park.
As reported on Leeds official website, Poveda could make his debut for Blackburn on Saturday against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium, and director of football Victor Orta reckons joining Rovers would help him develop like Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott did during a loan spell.
The winger is firmly in the club’s plans for the future and is without a doubt a talented player.
However, Poveda needs to prove himself over the next few months and show that he has what it takes to make an impact for Leeds in the Premier League.
