Radrizzani confirms when Leeds will expand Elland Road with 50,000 capacity planned

Leeds United have already started work on improvements to Elland Road that are needed for the Premier League.

However, the big change – the planned expansion to a 50,000 stadium – won’t happen for two-to-three years.

Talking to Leeds Live, Radrizzani said, “We need to confirm ourselves in the Premier League as a priority for two or three years before we can look at an expansion plan in terms of capacity.

“For sure we continue to improve the facilities and we already started that three years ago. We have already renovated many areas of the stadium and also Thorp Arch.

“The stadium we have started, we need to continue, but we will look only at capacity increase maybe after two or three years in the Premier League.”

Doing things the right way

Leeds fans might be a bit disappointed at this news but it’s yet more proof that Radrizzani is doing things the right way at Leeds.

We’re confident that Leeds will be able to consolidate in the Premier League but nothing’s certain.

And Leeds need to consolidate before investing more in the infrastructure of the club. A move to a 50,000 capacity will be expensive and absolutely worth it as a top-flight side.

However, no Leeds fan would want the club to overspend in the first season back in the Premier League.

Radrizzani has run things almost perfectly in the Championship, making a huge investment in Marcelo Bielsa, who succeeded in getting Leeds out of the EFL after two seasons.

Fulham have proved that spending big is no guarantee of success in the top-flight. You need to take a holistic approach and it sounds like Radrizzani has got his second three-year plan in operation already.
