Radrizzani talks QSI after £120m deal reported close, details when new investment will happen
Andrea Radrizzani has effectively denied that a £120m takeover deal between Leeds United and QSI is close after that news was reported by 90min.com.
However, he did confirm that new investment would be needed when Leeds got into the Premier League.
Talking to Gianluca Di Marzio, Radrizzani said, “They are rumours that have been around for over a year.
“Of course, there is an excellent relationship on a personal level [with QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi], a desire to do something together, maybe even in football, but nothing concrete at the moment.”
Athletic journalist Phil Hay had said that a deal with the San Francisco 49ers was just as likely to happen as a QSI deal and Radrizzani kept the door open to that too.
Radrizzani added, “My desire is to make a great Leeds player in the Premier League and to do so it will need to have new partners, in addition to the San Francisco 49ers. We will evaluate it when we are in that league.”
We’ve been saying for a long time that nothing is going to happen as far as fresh investment goes until Leeds are in the Premier League.
It didn’t make sense in January when Leeds couldn’t spend because of profit and sustainability. And it doesn’t make sense now.
That was confirmed by Radrizzani in the interview and it’s the only option that makes sense.
Leeds will be worth so much more in the Premier League and the club is on the brink of promotion.
If it wasn’t for the Coronavirus outbreak Leeds might already have been promoted, but all Radrizzani can do is sit and wait now.
In all likelihood, a solution will be found that leads to Leeds getting promoted. The only path that would really block that is the league being voided.
And with nine games left we just can’t see that happening.
