BBC Sport pundit raves over what Leeds United ace Joe Rodon did for Wales – ‘Done Brilliantly’

Leeds United defender Joe Rodon was praised by Sam Vokes following his impressive display for Wales against Montenegro (15 October).

Rodon played a crucial role in his side earning a 1-0 victory against Montenegro, maintaining Wales’ second position in their UEFA Nations League group.

The former Tottenham defender was a standout performer for The Dragons, a performance that earned him plaudits from BBC Sport pundit and former Wales striker Sam Vokes, who felt he was particularly impressive defending against Montenegro’s “big boys” at set-piece situations.

Speaking on BBC Radio Wales, Vokes said: “Ben Cabango and Joe Rodon brilliantly tonight, especially in the second half when Montenegro have tried to put it on us a little bit.

“Montenegro have sent the big boys out from set pieces and Wales have stood up to that and given a strong performance.”

Joe Rodon is key for Leeds United

Rodon has been one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Whites all season and with performances like the one against Montenegro, it is obvious why.

The defender was also a standout performer in his country’s previous outing against Iceland.

His composure on the ball is a vital attribute in Daniel Farke’s side who have a heavy emphasis on being able to play through the lines of opponents, his 95 per cent pass accuracy last night, according to FotMob, (15 October) just demonstrated this.

Leeds sit just two points behind League leaders Sunderland having failed to beat them in their previous league fixture, however, keeping players like Rodon on the pitch throughout the season will be crucial to their ambitions of returning to the Premier League.

A trip to Bramall Lane this Friday (18 October) is on the cards for Farke’s men to face an unbeaten Sheffield United side however with the Whites failing to beat any of the sides inside the top six so far, a result this weekend could prove to be vital.

In other Leeds United, an update has emerged on the club’s quest to finalise the Cheikhou Kouyate transfer.
