Pundit gushes over Patrick Bamford after what he did in Leeds United v Brighton

Tony Dorigo has been left impressed with the performance of Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford after his goal v Brighton on Saturday, 11 March at Elland Road.

The England international opened the scoring for Leeds at the stroke of half time to ensure that his side goes into the break still with a chance to win the game.

Bamford has faced battles with injuries of late but Javi Gracia opted to start him ahead of Georginio Rutter.

Dorigo told the Yorkshire Evening Post, “For Patrick Bamford in particular it was excellent. We know that he can score goals but he needs confidence. When he’s on song he can bang a few in but it’s taken him a little while to get that fitness and sharpness.

“Being that number nine through the middle, like it or not end product is what he’ll be measured on and Saturday’s was an excellent goal. He took his chance to shoot, a little deflection and over the keeper the ball went.”

Much needed

Bamford needed this goal to boost his confidence as he’s not been playing too well this season.

He’s been one of the worst strikers in the league in terms of goals and xG comparisons and putting this one into the back of the net would really have felt special.

Hopefully, he now manages to stay fit until the end of the season as Gracia will need to have his key players fit for the games to come.

Rodrigo may also be close to a return and there’s a good chance that the Spaniard is deployed behind Bamford in the eleven.

He’s been the club’s top goal scorer this season and started the campaign in such terrific form that his absence really seemed to cost the team a great deal.

We cannot wait for him and Bamford to pair up in the attack as there’s a very good chance this season is the last time they’ll be getting the opportunity.
