PSG set for last transfer attack on Diego Llorente as serious Leeds United news drops

Paris Saint-Germain are readying a “last attack” for Leeds United defender Diego Llorente amid an injury to Milan Skriniar, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet reported [10 January] that the 30-year-old centre-back, who is currently on loan at Roma from Elland Road, has attracted the interest of the Ligue 1 champions but there has been no offer made yet.

Leeds currently hold all the cards, having the last words in any potential transfer away from the club. PSG are said to have sounded out the entire market and pinned Llorente as their top target.

Strange.

The defender hit the ground running in West Yorkshire when he signed for Leeds in 2020/21, becoming a favourite under Marcelo Bielsa. He then started 28 Premier League matches in the following season, scoring four goals across the two campaigns.

Llorente is an incredible talent, which was showcased in spurts at Leeds. But his proneness to injury hindered his career at Elland Road, unable to pay the club back for his big transfer fee of £18million, as per BBC Sport.

However, like many of his Leeds teammates at the end of the season, the Spaniard jumped ships once Leeds looked to be at risk of Premier League relegation, joining Roma partway through the 2022/23 season.

He only made 61 appearances for the Whites in total since joining they signed him from Real Sociedad in September 2020, representing another disappointing signing at Leeds.

It will be a massive shame for Leeds fans to see the links between Llorente and the defender. With interest from one of Europe’s biggest giants, the 30-year-old is clearly talented enough, with more Europa League experience added to his CV.

Now, under Jose Mourinho, Llorente has become a vital player for Roma, starting 16 of their 19 league matches, missing only two of them due to a hamstring injury.

It looks as though the Spaniard’s time at Elland Road is coming to an end. However, fans will be hoping that Leeds can recoup their reported £18million transfer fee, with two years still left on his contract.

Llorente could have returned to the club with a host of new experiences, ready to lead the club to success, whether in the Championship or Premier League next season. However, those hopes are slowly dwindling after interest from PSG.
