PSG interested in Illan Meslier as alternative to Hugo Lloris

PSG are interested in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier according to The National.

It is believed the French giants are keen to replace goalie Keylor Navas and have also targeted Hugo Lloris and David De Gea.

However, the latter is too expensive and Lloris may be difficult to lure away from Tottenham, making Meslier the more likely option.

The report adds that the Frenchman would probably be tempted by the move but at this point there is no talk of a bid.

PSG is controlled by billionaire group QSI who have previously been linked with Leeds investment.

No surprise

Meslier’s form this year has been exceptional for such a young keeper in his debut Premier League season so there was always likely to be transfer attention on him.

The fact it has come so soon and from PSG says a lot about Meslier’s pedigree and how he has grown over the last 12 months.

At this point last year he was not even the number one choice and now he is a top-flight record-breaker.

He has managed eight clean sheets this year, the most ever for a Premier League keeper under the age of 21 in a single campaign.

That is some achievement for the youngster, particularly as our defence has been criticised frequently since promotion.

The interest from PSG makes a lot of sense given Meslier’s performances, as well as the fact he is French.

They are the powerhouse in his home nation and will always be an attractive option – they also have the capability to more than treble his weekly wage of £20,000 [Sportekz].

It could be difficult to keep him if a bid comes in, therefore, and if PSG do not make an approach there is sure to be interest from elsewhere.
