Preview: Leeds United v Swansea – Team news, how to watch, prediction, lineups

Leeds United will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Swansea on Saturday.

Daniel Farke‘s side are top of the Championship but level on points with Sheffield United after poor results in recent weeks wiped out their comfortable buffer.

They could end up losing out on automatic promotion again, with Burnley just two points behind the leading duo with eight matches left to play.

Leeds v Swansea preview

Leeds head into the Elland Road contest having won just one of their last four matches in the league, in a worrying trend for Farke.

The brilliant victories against Sunderland (17 February) and the Blades (24 February) that saw them in pole position for a Premier League berth seem like a lifetime ago.

The Whites’ draw with West Brom on 1 March was the start of a dismal run and was followed by a 1-0 loss to Portsmouth and another draw with QPR after the 2-0 victory over Millwall (12 March).

However, with eight matches left, the German will be keen to put those disappointing fixtures behind them and press on in their promotion push.

Meanwhile, the Welsh outfit have failed to score in their last two matches and were beaten comfortably by Burnley in their last match.

Their form has been patchy before that, with just two wins in their last seven, although they were against playoff-chasing Blackburn and Middlesbrough, so the hosts will have to be composed to avoid a shock.

Team News

Farke is expected to stick with the same backline from the draw with QPR, with Illan Meslier, Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Junior Firpo keeping their spots.

Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka are expected to keep their formidable partnership in midfield, with forgotten man Largie Ramazani also amongst those pushing to start.

Brendan Aaronson could be dropped after his poor performances lately, but Wilfried Gnonto is a doubt, so Joel Piroe may drop back into the ten role.

The hosts are expected to be without Ethan Ampadu, Max Wober and Patrick Bamford for the contest.

Meanwhile, the Swans are understood to be missing Harry Darling, Kristian Pedersen and Myles Peart-Harris for the trip to Yorkshire.

Predicted line-ups

Leeds: Meslier, Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Firpo, Tanaka, Rothwell, Ramazani, Piroe, Solomon, Joseph

Swansea: Vigouroux, Key, Delcroix, Cabango, Tymon, Franco, O’Brien, Ronald, Cullen, Eom, Vitpotnik

How to Watch

The contest will be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday and therefore will not be screened live on UK television due to the blackout.

However, BBC Radio Leeds will offer live audio coverage to those based in the region.

Prediction: Leeds 2-0 Swansea

The meeting holds more importance for the hosts, and they should come away with a victory to reignite their promotion charge.

Leeds’ home record this season

Farke will look to utilise his side’s impressive home form and the hostile atmosphere at Elland Road to his side’s advantage.

A negative result is unacceptable at this time of the campaign, so expect the Whites to go all out for victory on the occasion.
