Premier League to reward Leeds due to high number of vaccinated players

Leeds United are set to be rewarded by the Premier League due to their high number of vaccinated players, according to Sportsmail.

The Elland Road outfit, Brentford and Wolves have reported between 89 and 100 per cent vaccination levels, but only seven clubs’ squads are more than 50 per cent fully vaccinated.

The Premier League sent a briefing note to Leeds and other 19 top-flight clubs last week, claiming they are stepping up their efforts to ensure more players are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

They warn that the jab will be key in players not quarantining after international duty, and that is a massive boost for 24-year-old Brazilian Raphinha.

Good news?

The attacker was unable to travel for the last international break after he was handed a maiden call-up, missing the chance to make his debut.

Brazil manager Tite wanted the Leeds star available for the World Cup qualifiers against Chile, Argentina and Peru earlier this month, but he could not travel due to COVID-19 and quarantine protocols.

He has been handed another call-up ahead of next month’s qualifiers against Venezuela, Colombia and Uruguay, and the latest update from the Premier League is a massive boost to his international ambitions.

The Whites star cannot afford to miss games through quarantining after international duty, and should other clubs see that he is exempted from the rules, it would help speed up the process of having players vaccinated.

Raphinha dreams of playing at next summer’s World Cup, but he needs to prove himself in the qualifiers to boost his chances, and the Premier League could help make it come true if he is part of the players that have received the jab.
