Premier League rules blasted as unfair Leeds United financial reveal made
Leeds United are on their way back to the Premier League but they will not find things easy due to financial reasons.
With the help of Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprises, Daniel Farke has been tasked with the job of putting a side together that is able to compete at the top.
With PSR restraints hanging around their necks, though, it will be no easy job, highlighted by the relegation of the three newly promoted sides to the Championship once more.
Now it has become clear just what Leeds will be facing in their preparations for Premier League football.

Leeds facing tough restrictions from Premier League
Farke did an excellent job with his Leeds side last season and deservedly won promotion to the top flight by winning the Championship.
However, that was only ever going to be half of the job for the German, knowing that true success for Leeds is re-establishing themselves in the Premier League.
Played | Won | Drawn | Lost |
46 | 29 | 13 | 4 |
As a result of the expectations at Elland Road, there was plenty of speculation at the end of the campaign that Farke could be sacked in favour of a more proven manager in the top flight.
Nevertheless, the 49ers have stood by their man and will be prepared to provide the necessary support to succeed.
That being said, smart recruitment will be key as football finance expert Kieran Maguire revealed on talkSPORT (17 June) that Leeds could have about £100-150million to spend this summer, although spending to their maximum limit may not be wise.
He pointed out that fellow promoted side Sunderland will have even loss room to manoeuvre financially.
Due to the Premier League rules, the newly promoted sides can’t lose as much as the existing sides, meaning Leeds and Sunderland have £61m of losses they can make, while the current sides at the top can lose £105m over a three-year period.
The reality of the job that lies ahead left host Andy Goldstein stunned as he replied (5:48): “I mean it really is a case of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer and it’s not fair.
“It seems practically impossible now for newly promoted sides to stay in the Premier League for so many reasons. The financial reward for established clubs in the Premier League is giant, their losses can be bigger.
“I can’t see any way that a newly promoted side could actually stay in the Premier League for more than one season.
“I find it staggering that’s there’s no, I just can’t see a way for newly promoted sides to get close to competing with the Premier League sides.”
Farke has to be versatile with Leeds
As Goldstein says, it’s almost as though the newly promoted sides are fighting a losing battle in the Premier League from the get-go due to the restrictions they face.
Leeds have to face the battle that’s in front of them, though, and prove that they can earn their place once more.
With that in mind, having a strong window will be key, using the foreign markets to pick up cheaper transfers that can be effective in the top flight.
In addition to that, Farke must also be prepared to be adaptable with his Leeds squad next season, rather than falling victim to relegation on the grounds of style of play, similar to Southampton this term.
It won’t be easy, but Leeds can make sure it is them who break the mould.
