Pre-season crucial for Ian Poveda’s Leeds United future
Ian Poveda could face a tricky situation at Leeds United in the summer under Jesse Marsch.
According to Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross, wingers are not used by the American boss, and Poveda’s long-term future could depend on the pre-season.
The 22-year-old winger joined Blackburn Rovers on loan during the summer, but he is currently back at Thorp Arch for treatment after suffering an ankle injury.

He has made eight appearances before injury struck at Bristol City. The youngster was enjoying a fruitful loan spell but returned to his parent club to undergo his rehabilitation.
“When he was first sent out on loan the noises we heard suggested this was very temporary and there was a long-term home for Poveda at Leeds,” wrote Cross in a Q/A session for Leeds Live.
“Much depends on how his pre-season goes under Marsch, you would think. As we know, wingers are not readily used by the American in his system.”
Return to Blackburn
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Poveda is close to returning to Rovers.
He suffered a broken ankle, but now he is fit enough to feature in the final few games of the season, as Blackburn are aiming to secure promotion to the Premier League.
At the moment, the youngster shouldn’t even think about the future. He is a fantastic talent, and technically gifted.

Marsch surely will have a hard look at him before making his final call. In fact, considering his age, Marsch can change his position as well according to his system.
He can be sent out on loan again in summer, if Marsch feels like he is still raw and not ready yet for the Premier League.
The Whites boss has made it clear that he would love to work with young players, and that they will be given opportunities. So, one can expect that he will find a system to integrate a talented player like Poveda.
