Players have growing reluctance to accept EFL plan due to health fears – report
Leeds United are still waiting to be able to continue their charge for promotion to the Premier League but they do now have a potential date when they could restart.
According to the Guardian, the EFL plans to allow players to return to training on May 16 before resuming the 2019/20 season a few weeks later on June 6.
However the newspaper claims that there is a “growing reluctance among some players” to resume playing on that date due to fears over their health and the health of others.
The EFL maintains that the safety of players is their main priority but the concerns of those players could end up throwing the governing body’s plans into doubt.
For now, there is not much the EFL can do but sit and wait.
We all want to have a date to look forward to when Leeds are able to resume their bid to win promotion but that cannot happen while there are still hundreds of people dying each day due to the coronavirus.
It could be months before football is back on our television screens and even longer before fans are allowed back into stadiums.
The EFL is probably going to keep on saying dates but it’s going to keep on changing the longer this all goes on for.
