Player at Elland Road, medical underway as Leeds home in on major transfer – report

Striker Jean-Kevin Augustin is closing in on a loan move to Leeds United after arriving at the club on Sunday night.

The Athletic has reported that Augustin was due to take his medical this morning, although we’ve had no word yet as to whether this has been completed.

Augustin agreed a deal with Leeds over the weekend and it is expected to be a loan with an option to buy if Leeds get promoted.

If the deal does get concluded it would finally see the end of a transfer saga that’s focussed heavily on Che Adams, before Leeds seemed to admit defeat there and move onto Augustin.

Augustin might not have lived up to his early promise yet, but he’s never played under a manager like Marcelo Bielsa.

If anyone can get the most out of him, Bielsa can, and the prospect of a player like Augustin playing at Elland Road is one that’s got us very excited.

If Augustin had lived up to his potential at PSG, RB Leipzig or Monaco, there would be no way that Leeds would be in a position to sign him.

He’s a player who was linked with a €40m move to Everton just last yeat.

Phil Hay has said that his wages are high, although we don’t know if he’ll become the highest-paid player at Leeds.

If the deal does get done today, it’s unlikely that Augustin will be in the squad to face Millwall on Tuesday.

However, Ian Poveda, the winger that Leeds signed from Man City could well be involved and might be on the bench.

Irrespective, a deal for Augustin will be a huge boost for Leeds and could well light a bonfire under Patrick Bamford.

Leeds go into tomorrow’s game a point behind West Brom.
